Here’s how the program works: St. Louis HELP accepts donations of nearly every type of home medical equipment, in good working condition — except oxygen and medications. We revitalize and clean the equipment, and have it ready to loan to people in need or their caregivers.

What Is Home Medical Equipment?

Put simply, Home Medical Equipment – HME – includes any item that enables a person to function better or more easily than they could without that item – in like new or gently used condition. Examples of HME equipment are:

  • Manual Wheelchairs (we do not accept power wheelchairs or scooters)

  • Walkers, Crutches and Canes

  • Shower Chairs, Shower Stools, and Tub-Transfer Benches

  • Portable Commodes

  • Elevated Toilet Seats

  • Shower, Tub and Wall Grab Bars

  • Electric Hospital Beds

  • Lift Chairs

  • Reachers and Grabbers

Why Reuse Home Medical Equipment?

Recycling and reuse of HME makes common sense.

Passing on used devices means no longer needing to store them and sparing the environment the impact of throwing them away. Those who donate equipment will know they are helping people in need by providing accessibility to those who do not have the financial resources to acquire the equipment.
